Install Umbraco with the Application Installer

Open AppInstaller in the Control Panel and pick Umbraco from the list of popular applications. The installer needs an empty website root, deploys the files for you and sends the result with the admin login to your e-mail. The website has to use the .NET Core scripting mode, which you can check on the Scripting page.

The built-in File Manager lets you upload files of up to 2 GB, edit configuration files and create or extract ZIP archives without any client software. When Umbraco does not start, the event logs and the ASP.NET Core debug log in the Control Panel show you why.

Questions about Umbraco hosting

Which Umbraco version can I install?

The Application Installer installs a current Umbraco release. You can also deploy any other Umbraco version yourself from Visual Studio or GitHub, as long as it targets a .NET version we support.

Can I try Umbraco hosting for free?

Yes. The Free plan gives you one website with 5 GB of storage and 256 MB of dedicated RAM on our free subdomains (runasp.net or tryasp.net), plus one database with 1 GB of storage. No credit card is required. For a production site we recommend Premium, where a website starts with 512 MB of RAM and can grow to 8 GB.

Can I use my own domain and HTTPS with Umbraco?

Custom domains are part of Premium plans. Free Let’s Encrypt certificates are issued per domain and renewed automatically, and you can force a redirect from HTTP to HTTPS in the Control Panel.

Is my Umbraco site backed up?

Premium plans include automatic daily backups that are kept for 14 days. The Free plan has no automatic backups, so keep your own copy of the site and its data.

How do I deploy custom Umbraco code?

Publish from Visual Studio with Web Deploy using the publish profile from the Control Panel, or connect a GitHub repository and let us build the project with dotnet publish. List files such as appsettings.Production.json as protected files so that a deploy never overwrites them.

Where do I find errors when Umbraco does not start?

Turn on the ASP.NET Core debug log in the Control Panel to capture the standard output of your application, and check the event logs (IIS, WAS and ASP.NET), which are kept for 7 days.
